Subsidized Housing - Aw Chan Kam Chee Evergreen Manor

As of today, Yee Hong owns and directly manages one social housing complex, Yee Hong Aw Chan Kam Chee Evergreen Manor at 2319 McNicoll Avenue in Scarborough.

Philosophy

Yee Hong believes in building caring communities where seniors can age in place. It is therefore our vision that affordable housing with appropriate support services form an integral part of the continuum of health and social services which enable seniors to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

Uniqueness

Completed in 1993, Yee Hong Aw Chan Kam Chee Evergreen Manor was granted the first ONPHA Award of Excellence in 1997 by the Ontario Non-profit Housing Association. The Award recognizes Yee Hong’s outstanding achievement in building a caring community in which seniors continue to live an active lifestyle and are supported with personal support and homemaking services when circumstances so require. The whole building is designed to be wheelchair accessible and there are altogether 12 modified units in the building for wheelchair accessibility.

Subsidized Housing

There are 130 units of senior apartments with 112 one-bedroom units, 18 two-bedroom units and 26 units of three-bedroom townhouses. Recognizing the tremendous need for affordable housing, Yee Hong is actively seeking new models of providing housing services to seniors in the Greater Toronto Area despite the government's withdrawal from funding new subsidized housing.

A total of 122 apartment units and 22 townhouse units are offered to people who meet the requirement for Rent-Geared-to-Income assistance. For those successful applicants, 30% of their household income will be used for calculation of the subsidized rent.

Market Rent

A total of 8 apartment units and 4 townhouse units are designated as Market Rent units. Applicant whose annual household income has exceeded the upper limit (currently is $42,000 for apartment unit and $50,500 for townhouse units) set by the City of Toronto may apply for the Market Rent unit and pay the market rent, i.e. $1,074 for a two-bedroom apartment unit and $1,269 for a three-bedroom townhouse unit.

Eligibility

·These include Canadian citizens and landed immigrants.
