COVID-19 has changed a lot of things but it doesn’t mean we stop caring for each other in the community.

In the past few days, Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation has received generous donations of face masks, gloves and other critical personal protective equipment from individuals and organizations, including Canada Beijing Association, Shanxi Association of Canada, Centre of Sustainable and Integrated Design, Changzhou Club, Toronto City Councillor Cynthia Lai, and Markham City Councillor Amanda Yeung Collucci.

Visitor restrictions at long-term care homes were imposed by the public health authorities, effective at Yee Hong March 15. The four Yee Hong Centres now only accept essential visitors. Without the support from families and volunteers, our frontline teams are working extremely hard to keep residents healthy and safe, and limit the impact on residents’ physical and emotional health during this unprecedented time. Yee Hong has deployed over 60 staff from its Community and Professional Services division to provide additional support to the four long-term care homes.

Although it is hard to be away from loved ones, some residents’ families have shown their appreciation for the efforts our staff has made. Last week, Yee Hong Finch Centre received a bouquet of beautiful flowers from an anonymous family, with a thank-you card that says, “To all the team and residents at Yee Hong… know that we are still thinking of you in these difficult times”. Others emailed their thanks (see “Thank you Yee Hong!” feature). Lindt has also offered to donate some chocolates to cheer up the residents and front-line care workers.

Together, we can get through this with our love and care. We’ll continue to keep our seniors strong and healthy! Please click here to donate or contact Yee Hong Foundation at foundation@yeehong.com.
