Yee Hong Aw Chan Kam Chee Evergreen Manor – Subsidized Housing

Currently, Yee Hong directly manages one social housing complex, the Yee Hong Aw Chan Kam Chee Evergreen Manor, in Scarborough.

Completed in 1993, the Yee Hong Aw Chan Kam Chee Evergreen Manor was bestowed with the first ONPHA Award of Excellence in 1997 by the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association, recognizing Yee Hong’s outstanding achievement in building a caring community where seniors live an active lifestyle and are supported with personal support and homemaking services. The whole building, including 12 modified units, is designed to be wheelchair accessible.

There are 130 apartment units (with 112 one-bedroom units, 18 two-bedroom units) for seniors and 26 three-bedroom townhouses units for families. Recognizing the tremendous need for affordable housing, Yee Hong is actively seeking new models of providing housing services to seniors in the Greater Toronto Area, despite the government’s withdrawal from funding new subsidized housing.

A total of 122 apartment units and 22 townhouse units are offered to people who meet the requirement for Rent-Geared-to-Income assistance. For those successful applicants, 30% of their household income will be used for calculation of the subsidized rent.

Market Rent

At least 8 apartment units and 4 townhouse units are designated as Market Rent units. Applicants whose annual household income has exceeded the upper limit set by the City of Toronto may apply for Market Rent units and pay the market rent.

Eligibility

For applicants to Senior Apartment Units, they have to be at least 59 years old. Permanent legal residents of Canada, including Canadian citizens and landed immigrants as these units are mandated to cater for the needs of applicants with Chinese origins.

There is no restriction to applicants of townhouse units as long as they are permanent legal residents of Canada.
