Chieh Miao Chu
Chieh Miao Chu, aged 93, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, embraced by the love and prayers of her family. Born on December 18, 1930, in China, Chieh Miao’s life journey took her from the vibrant streets of Shanghai, to Hong Kong, where she met her beloved husband, Tse Kong Chow, who predeceased her in 2000, and finally to Toronto, Canada, where she lived with her eldest daughter, Vicky, for over 20 years.
A devout Christian, Chieh Miao remained steadfast in her faith throughout her battle with pancreatic cancer, displaying remarkable courage and grace. Known for her kindness, generosity, and exceptional talent in the kitchen, her delicious Shanghainese dishes brought warmth and joy to many gatherings. She was also a skilled knitter and seamstress, crafting beautiful traditional New Year’s clothing for her daughters during their childhood.
Chieh Miao was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her daughters, Vicky and Norene; her son-in-law, Patrick; her grandson, Justin, and granddaughter-in-law, Emily; as well as her dear nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her faith, strength, and unwavering love for her family.
Chieh Miao’s funeral service will take place on Friday November 22 at York Cemetery & Funeral Centre (160 Beecroft Rd, Toronto, ON, M2N 5Z5). Visitation starts at 9:30 am, funeral service at 10:30am and interment will follow immediately after. Click for more funeral details.

All the doctors, nurses and staff at Yee Hong Hospice had provided exceptional kind and compassionate care to Chieh Miao, keeping her comfortable in her last days. Her family celebrates her legacy of love, resilience, and faith, which will forever remain in their hearts.
